My ramblings on my concept of my Ork Horde

All background is subject to change, and this is the first time I have written it down in any shape or form. I will however leave the background in this post unchanged, as I will think it will be interesting to see how much the final background will resemble this initial concept.

First off, I have always had a fondness of GorkaMorka, and I wanted my horde to look very much like a ramshackle collection of GorkaMorka mobs rather than a single cohesive army. The things that characterized GorkaMorka for me were the Injury Table (both for Orks and Vehicles), Docs Surjury, Vehicle ‘Improvements’ and the suicidal tactics that were needed in games of GorkaMorka.

So, there is my initial concept:
Lots and lots (and lots) of ramshackle vehicles.
Lots of Docs.
Lots of Orks who have had injuries
Lots of Orks who have had Surjury
Lots of Meks

I also wanted my army to grow ‘organically.’ So, in order to help with this organic growth, I took inspiration from the Injury tables in GorkaMorka with some modification.

For each model in the army, before assembling it, I would roll a number of D6’s to determine the number of times they have been injured. The number of D6’s a model would roll would be determined according to the following table:

Boy - 1D6
Nob - 2D6
Boss - 4D6
Big Boss - 8D6
War Boss - 16D6
War Lord - 32D6

Other than Boyz and Nobz, I haven’t decided how these titles will work with the units/characters in the Ork Codex.

The total rolled will be the number of times the Ork has to roll on the Serious Injury Table, re-rolling any Dead results.

Because I like docs Surjury, I decided that any Ork had received a serious Injury would have had surjury (whether this surjury was willing is another matter). I can easily imagine an Ork Doc seeing an Ork with an Injury and giving him an anaesthetic (aka hitting the patient over the head with a big mallet) and conducting surjury on the patient.

I will also be doing something similar with the vehicles, but I haven’t really thought about the details yet.

Da Start

Hi all

Well, after a very long absence from the Warhammer 40,000 scene, I have returned to the game.

After much debating I have finally decided to go for Orks and as the blog title suggests. I am planning on using ‘The Tale of Four Gamers’ approach. I will be using the original method with a few modifications.

Da Roolz
I will have £25 (or teef) to spend each month on army purchases (more about the different types of purchases later). Although this won’t allow for many models a month, I want to try and model and paint the army to a display standard (rather than gaming standard), so fewer models a month will be better for me. Also, because of my location, I won’t often be able to play games very often (three or four times a year), so having a playable army quickly isn’t a priority.

My monthly purchase will fall into one of three categories:
Army Purchases – these will be any models from the Ork Range (this is what will count towards my teef spent
Hobby Purchases – this will be any modelling supplies, books etc.
Gubbinz Purchases – These will be any purchases of models from other ranges in order to do conversions (as I no longer have a bitz box).

The first month will NOT have a larger budget.

Each months models must be painted by the end of the month.

Regular updates to this Blog will be made (I will aim for one a week), with WIP pictures when available.

Any unspent teef can be added to the next months purchases.

The first month of the project will be August (or there will be various work done before then, so there will still be regular blogs updates)

So, those are da roolz.
